Spendable over several visits
A gift is rarely the exact price of a treatment. Someone buys a round number, the treatment costs something else, and the difference has to live somewhere.
So a voucher carries a balance rather than being used up in one go. Each part-spend is recorded against the visit it paid for, which means the balance is a sum your team can explain rather than a number that changed on its own. When it reaches zero, it is done.
Why the code looks the way it does
The code is the voucher's only secret. Anyone holding it can spend the balance, which is exactly what makes a gift voucher work as a gift, and exactly why the code has to be taken seriously.
Three things follow. It is long enough that guessing one is not worth anybody's time. It leaves out the characters people misread off a printed card, so nobody rings your clinic arguing about a zero and the letter O. And no code is ever reused, so a voucher that has been spent cannot be revived by a coincidence. Looking one up on your website is rate-limited in the same way as every other public form on the site.
Sold online, where Stripe is available
Where your clinic has Stripe, vouchers can be bought straight from your website. The buyer pays on Stripe's secure page, through your clinic's own Stripe account, and the voucher becomes spendable once the payment has actually landed rather than the moment the form was submitted.
Clinics there sell vouchers at the desk, which is the same rule that already applies to booking deposits. Everything else about vouchers works identically in both markets.
Vouchers as a way in
A voucher is one of the few things a happy patient can hand to somebody who has never heard of your clinic. The person who redeems it arrives already recommended, and becomes a patient record like any other, with their visit history in one place.
Where a clinic also runs loyalty points and referrals, the two do different jobs: points reward the patient you already have, and a voucher brings you somebody new. Both end up in reports as completed visits, so you can see which is actually working.

What vouchers don't do
A voucher is an amount to spend at your clinic. It is not a payment system.
- Clinics there sell vouchers at the desk.
- A voucher is spent at your clinic against a visit. There is no full online payment of a treatment bill and no point of sale.
- Refunds are made in your own Stripe account, not from the Velvet Lead admin panel.
- A voucher is an amount, not a treatment. A course of six sessions is sold as a course instead.
- There is no physical card to post, no plastic to swipe and no barcode to scan.

What if someone pays online and the payment fails?
The voucher is not spendable until the payment has actually landed, so a failed or abandoned payment never produces a usable code.
Can we refund a voucher?
Refunds are made in your own Stripe account, where you already see every payment, and to your own voucher terms. Velvet Lead does not issue refunds from the admin panel.
